Job Description

A welder's job description includes:

• Reading blueprints Welders read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine the dimensions of parts to be welded.
• Setting up components Welders set up components for welding by cutting material to match measurements and aligning components with calipers and rulers.
• Welding Welders use manual or semiautomatic equipment to weld components in various positions. They also monitor the welding process and adjust heat as needed.
• Repairing Welders repair holes, seams, and indentations in metal products. They can also repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
• Maintaining equipment Welders maintain welding equipment and machinery.
• Safety Welders should be attentive to detail and alert to ensure safety. They should also be able to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines.

Welders work in industrial, manufacturing, and construction industries. Some welders even work underwater, repairing the structures of oil rigs.
