• Customer Service: Providing excellent customer service is paramount. Waiters greet customers, take orders, answer questions about menu items, make recommendations, and ensure customer satisfaction throughout the dining experience.
• Order Taking: Waiters take food and drink orders from customers, accurately noting any special requests or dietary restrictions. They may also input orders into the restaurant's computerized system or communicate them directly to the kitchen staff.
• Food and Beverage Delivery: Waiters deliver food and beverages to customers' tables promptly and accurately, ensuring that each order is complete and meets the customer's specifications. They may also be responsible for carrying trays of multiple dishes or drinks at once.
• Table Maintenance: Waiters maintain the cleanliness and appearance of their assigned tables and dining areas throughout the meal service. This includes clearing empty dishes and glassware, wiping down tables, and ensuring that condiments and utensils are readily available.
• Upselling and Recommending: Waiters may be tasked with upselling menu items or promoting special offers to increase sales. They should be knowledgeable about the menu and able to make informed recommendations based on customers' preferences.
• Handling Payments: Waiters process payment transactions, including cash, credit/debit cards, and electronic payments. They must accurately calculate bills, handle cash responsibly, and provide customers with receipts.
• Collaboration with Kitchen Staff: Waiters communicate orders and any special requests to the kitchen staff, ensuring that food is prepared correctly and delivered in a timely manner. They may also coordinate with kitchen and bar staff to ensure smooth service during peak hours.
• Knowledge of Menu and Specials: Waiters must be familiar with the restaurant's menu offerings, including ingredients, preparation methods, and any daily specials or promotions. This knowledge enables them to answer customer questions and make appropriate recommendations.
• Compliance with Health and Safety Regulations: Waiters adhere to health and safety regulations at all times, including proper food handling and sanitation practices. They may also assist with maintaining a clean and organized work environment in accordance with restaurant standards.
• Teamwork: Waiters work closely with other restaurant staff, including hosts/hostesses, bussers, and managers, to ensure efficient and coordinated service. They must be able to communicate effectively and collaborate with colleagues to deliver a positive dining experience for customers.
