Job description Business: Global Risk & Compliance Open positions:1 Role Title: Vice President\xe2\x80\x99s GSC Global Career Band: 4 Location (Country / City):India/ Bangalore/Kolkata/Gurgaon The Opportunity:Role purpose Model Risk Management (MRM), part of Global Risk & Compliance, is responsible for providing second line of defense for HSBC\xe2\x80\x99s model risk. Model Risk Management comprises of five key areas, led by the Chief Model Risk Officer:
Independent Model Review - Independently reviewing and (re)validating models and methodologies across functions and risk types within the bank.
Model Risk Governance - Setting the firm\xe2\x80\x99s model risk policies and standards as well as ensuring that model risk is managed within the approved tolerance levels.
Model Risk Stewardship - Facilitating responsible development, understanding and use of models and analytics, as well as providing subject matter expertise, advice, guidance, and effective challenge across regions, businesses, and functions.
Regulatory Standards and Quality Assurance - Providing expertise and partnering to Senior Management for reviewing and decision making, by developing opinions and interpretations of relevant regulatory changes impacting model risk.
Infrastructure \xe2\x80\x93 Providing Global Model Inventory System (GMIS) management, maintenance and user engagement, along with report production and technology enhancements.
Independent Model Review (IMR) is a specialist quantitative team and are responsible for carrying out independent validations of HSBC\xe2\x80\x99s new and existing business use of quantitative models, to identify and communicate model risk. Model types include but are not limited to Credit Risk models (Retail and Wholesale), IFRS9 models, Stress Testing and Scenario Analysis models, Economic Capital models, Financial Vulnerability models, Pricing models, Traded Risk models and Insurance Risk models. This includes the traditional model types as well as modern approaches such as machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. Independent Model Review provides independent challenge of a model\xe2\x80\x99s underlying theoretical assumptions and limitations, its practical implementation, its live application and business usage, providing stakeholders (including model users, senior management, audit and regulators) with assurance that models and tools developed, maintained and used within HSBC Group are fit for their intended purposes and are compliant with applicable internal and supervisory expectations. Experience of implementing multiple AI/ML projects end to end from conceptualization to implementation.
Knowledge of data cleaning, feature engineering, and data normalization techniques is important for preparing the data before feeding it into the models.
Strong technical understanding of data science, machine learning, analytical methodologies, and tools with hands on experience of when to use what and adapting to the regulatory requirements and guidelines.
Track record in leading large, complex data science and analytics projects (preferably in the domain of Credit /Markets/Financial Crime Risk and regulatory models) which have provided significant business impacts or regulatory approvals.
Sound understanding and hands on experience of Large Language Models (LLM) such as Generative AI and Predictive modelling (Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, Random Forest, GBM etc.) and statistical analysis (Variable Reduction, Feature engineering) with Supervised and Unsupervised machine learning algorithms.
Preferably well versed with updated current trends in the credit risk regulatory landscape, AI/ML techniques and methods used in model risk management.
Preferably well versed with Regulatory guidelines on AI/ML Risk Management (EBA, Federal Reserve etc.)
Hands on knowledge on SAS, Python, PySpark, R and SQL is a must.
Leadership & Teamwork
Work collaboratively and provide SME for a team of AI validation, technical and review professional in AI operating across geographies and the HSBC matrix.
Support the recruitment and retention of high-quality talented individuals.
Ability to lead development and management of AI/ML playbooks and tests plans for sound review and challenge of AI/ML models.
Support the interaction with Group Internal Audit on AI related audits, MSIIs and audit issues and ensure oversight on the implementation of any audit recommendations.
Help build management, regulatory, and external confidence in all AI tools used across the group.
Requirements What you will need to succeed in the role:
Proven experience as a Data Scientist or similar role with 13+ years of experience focused primarily on the Credit/Markets/Financial Crime Risk of a bank/NBFC or Fintech or any other Retail business.
Post Graduation in Statistics or Mathematics or Economics or Computer Science; any certification on Artificial intelligence courses will be preferred.
Analytical expertise with AI/ML applications in banking or related industries
Strong technical knowledge of common AI applications including strong understanding of risks with AI/ML across various risk stripes along with mitigant.
Strong written and oral communication with ability to clearly communicate complex analytical concepts clearly to management and broad audience.
Experience in developing and/or validating quantitative models in AI.
What additional skills will be good to have? The job holder will be required to:
Collaborate with multiple senior stakeholder relationships at global level, as well as within different lines of business, functions, and regions.
Communicate complex technical modelling issues to, and deliver credible feedback to, senior stakeholders (Chief Risk Officers, Chief Financial Officers, Global Heads of Functions, etc.).
Support team lead in interactions external parties including Auditors and Regulators.
Liaise with Regional Model Risk Management teams and other teams within Independent Model Review to best manage AI governance across all legal entities, regions, businesses and functions across HSBC.
Have strong and broad technical expertise encompassing modelling of various product types and jurisdictions.
Enhance model risk management and understanding across, legal entities, regions, global businesses, and functions.
Work in a rapidly changing regulatory environment and with a dynamic model delivery schedule, often within short timescales.
