Firm Risk Management
Firm Risk Management (FRM) supports Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of credit, market, liquidity, model and other risks.
Background on the Position
Credit Risk Management (CRM) evaluates credit risk transactions and approves, rejects, or modifies them considering the availability and appropriateness of arrangements for reducing risk or risk mitigation. The department also assigns Internal Credit Ratings; establishes and manages credit risk limits in accordance with the risk tolerance established by the Board; monitors and reports on credit risk exposures on a regular basis to the Chief Risk Officer and senior management. CRM also interacts with business units to ensure that credit risk assessments are factored into business decisions.
Morgan Stanley is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the Credit Risk function responsible for broker dealer and bank lending businesses. Role
• Independently manage highly complex credit portfolios and build deep knowledge on Bank or Margin Lending and Traded products. Focus on developing deep domain knowledge and SME capabilities. Stay updated on various products, develop industry knowledge and its impact our business, and proactively discuss / share opinions with senior coverage stakeholders.
• Perform quality assurance to verify the reviews approved are in with credit policies and procedures. Escalate the errors/concerns to credit officers for corrective actions.
• Demonstrate acceptable knowledge and ability to analyze different asset classes such as Equity, Fixed Income, structured products, Listed derivatives in addition to industry / country / sovereign research and the risks
• Manage stakeholder expectations and partner with colleagues across the globe to achieve your goals and to gain insight into how a global organization works.
• Mentor junior team members and provide them necessary trainings and oversight to ensure good quality deliverables.
• Manage a team of 7-8 Analysts/Associates/AVP in terms of personal development, oversee production to ensure deliverables are on time and are of high quality, and provide timely feedback.
• Manage escalations, and show a strong inclination towards problem solving and innovation
• Contribute to production and recognize proper delegation, setting of team goals and work on synergies across different teams.
• Assessment of credit strengths and weakness of UHNW/ HNW (Ultra-high Net Worth / High Net Worth) for US/ International clients.
• Prepare and review high quality Credit memo for complex relationship for existing and new clients with recommendations, risks and mitigations for deals and send to authorized credit officers for approval within designated due dates.
• Perform and review portfolio analysis taking a holistic view of the customer to derive key insights to support a variety of strategic business initiatives - e.g. enhanced customer segmentation approaches to refine underwriting strategy and processes
• Monitor and escalate portfolio quality on an ongoing basis such as deteriorating collateral, adverse borrower information, negative trends, material individual/aggregate relationship and other risks.
• Credit Reviews prepared in an appropriate manner in accordance with credit policies and procedures to protect the interests of the firm. Providing support for regulatory, audits and compliance testing.
• Partner with colleagues across the globe to achieve your goals and to gain insight into how a global organization works.
• Lead key CRM projects globally and deliver tangible outcomes. Independently identify opportunities and drive projects aimed at either process efficiency / process improvement / strengthening controls, as applicable
QUALIFICATIONS
Skills required
• 12+ years work experience in financial services industry
• Detail oriented, with exceptional analytical skills
• Knowledge of various asset classes, derivatives and personal/business financial statement and credit reports
• Well organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Strong analytical and numerical skills to assimilate complex information rapidly
• Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
• Possess strong problem identification and solution techniques
• Good collaboration skills in a team-oriented environment
• Bachelor's Degree and previous experience in Finance, Banking, Prime brokerage, Broker dealer preferred
