Job Summary:
The Vehicle Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the effective and efficient operation, maintenance, and management of the vehicle fleet on a civil construction site. This role ensures that all vehicles and machinery are in good working condition, adhere to safety standards, and are available as needed for construction activities. The Vehicle Supervisor coordinates with drivers, site management, and maintenance teams to maintain optimal performance and utilization of the vehicles and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Fleet Management :
- Oversee daily operations of vehicles and construction machinery such as trucks, excavators, bulldozers, and other heavy equipment.
- Monitor vehicle usage to ensure optimal allocation and minimize downtime.
- Maintain an accurate log of all vehicles, equipment, and machinery on-site.
- Plan and schedule vehicle maintenance and servicing to prevent breakdowns and delays.
2. Inspection & Maintenance :
- Conduct regular inspections of all vehicles and equipment to ensure they meet safety standards.
- Report any faults or damages promptly and arrange for necessary repairs.
- Ensure vehicles are properly fueled and ready for use.
- Liaise with the maintenance team to prioritize repairs and servicing.
3. Safety & Compliance :
- Ensure that all vehicles and machinery comply with local laws, safety regulations, and environmental policies.
- Enforce vehicle safety policies, including the use of seat belts, adherence to speed limits, and safe operation practices.
- Coordinate with safety officers to conduct safety drills and inspections.
4. Driver Supervision & Training :
- Supervise vehicle operators and drivers, ensuring they operate vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
- Provide or arrange for training and certification for vehicle operators as required.
- Monitor driver performance and address any issues related to misconduct or unsafe practices.
5. Coordination & Communication :
- Coordinate with site management to ensure vehicles are available for project requirements.
- Communicate with suppliers for the procurement of parts, fuel, and other vehicle-related supplies.
- Ensure proper documentation of vehicle use, maintenance, fuel consumption, and other relevant records.
6. Budget & Cost Control :
- Monitor fuel consumption, repair costs, and other expenses related to vehicle operations.
- Develop and manage the vehicle and equipment maintenance budget.
- Recommend cost-saving strategies, such as optimizing vehicle use and reducing fuel consumption.
7. Reporting :
- Prepare and submit regular reports on vehicle utilization, condition, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
- Track and analyze vehicle performance data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
Qualifications:
- Education :
- High school diploma or equivalent. A diploma or certification in fleet management, automotive mechanics, or related fields is a plus.
Experience :
- 3-5 years of experience in vehicle or fleet supervision, preferably within the construction or civil engineering industry.
- Experience in handling heavy machinery and construction equipment is preferred.
Skills :
- Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics and maintenance.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficient in fleet management software and record-keeping systems.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
- Knowledge of local transportation and vehicle regulations.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and meet deadlines.
Working Conditions:
- Work primarily outdoors on construction sites, exposed to varying weather conditions.
- May be required to work extended hours, including weekends, based on project needs.
