Job Description


:A tunnel construction manager will be responsible for planning, design, and construction of tunnel projects, ensuring that work is completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality and safety standards. This role involves coordinating between various stakeholders, including engineers, subcontractors, and clients, and managing all aspects of the tunnel's construction processKey Responsibilities:Project Planning and Execution:

  • Lead and manage tunnel construction projects, primarily utilizing the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM).
  • Develop detailed construction schedules, methods, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure project timelines, budgets, and resources are managed effectively.
NATM Technique Implementation:
  • Oversee the use of NATM for tunnel stabilization, including monitoring ground conditions, shotcrete applications, and ground support installation.
  • Coordinate with design teams to ensure that construction aligns with geological conditions and design specifications.
Team Leadership:
  • Supervise site engineers, subcontractors, and skilled laborers.
  • Ensure training and safety protocols are followed, with a focus on NATM-specific methods and equipment.
Quality and Safety Assurance:
  • Implement and enforce safety guidelines specific to underground construction.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain compliance with project specifications and safety standards.
  • Ensure high standards of quality control throughout the construction process.
Stakeholder Communication:
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress, costs, and potential risks.
Resource Management:
  • Manage material procurement and inventory specific to NATM.
  • Ensure the efficient use of equipment, tools, and labor on site.
Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Implement monitoring systems for tunnel deformation and ground movements.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Problem Solving:
  • Address challenges such as unexpected ground conditions, equipment failures, or delays in material supply.
  • Develop contingency plans to ensure minimal disruptions to the project.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Educational Background: Bachelors or Masters degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Experience: Extensive experience (usually 8-12 years) in tunneling and underground construction, with a strong focus on NATM projects.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in NATM techniques and tunnel excavation technologies.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical monitoring, ground stabilization, and shotcrete application.
  • Knowledge of software tools like AutoCAD, MS Project, and Primavera for planning and reporting.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership and communication skills to manage large teams and subcontractors.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to address engineering, logistical, and safety issues promptly and effectively.
  • Certifications: OSHA or similar safety certifications, PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is a plus.
Work Environment:
  • Primarily onsite at tunneling projects, often in challenging conditions.
  • May require working in shifts, particularly when overseeing round-the-clock construction activities.
