Job Summary:
The Trainee Commis Chef is an entry-level position in the kitchen, responsible for assisting the chefs in preparing ingredients, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and learning the fundamentals of cooking. Key Responsibilities:
• Food Preparation:
• Assist in the preparation of ingredients, including washing, peeling, chopping, and slicing fruits, vegetables, and other ingredients.
• Prepare basic dishes under the supervision of senior chefs, following recipes and instructions accurately.
• Measure and mix ingredients as directed.
• Kitchen Support:
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including workstations, equipment, and storage areas.
• Ensure all kitchen utensils and equipment are cleaned, sanitized, and properly stored.
• Assist with receiving, storing, and organizing kitchen supplies and ingredients.
• Learning and Development:
• Observe and learn cooking techniques, methods, and recipes from senior chefs.
• Participate in training sessions and practical exercises to improve culinary skills and knowledge.
• Seek feedback and implement suggestions to enhance cooking proficiency and efficiency.
• Health and Safety:
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices.
• Follow kitchen safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor.
• Team Collaboration:
• Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations and timely food preparation.
• Assist in the preparation and plating of dishes during service.
• Communicate effectively with team members and respond promptly to requests and instructions.
Qualifications:
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Culinary school coursework or a degree in Culinary Arts is a plus.
• Experience: Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment is beneficial but not required.
• Skills:
• Basic understanding of kitchen operations and cooking techniques.
• Ability to follow instructions and recipes accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Physical stamina and the ability to stand for long periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
