Tool Room - Tool Designer
Responsibilities:
Tool Design: Develop innovative and efficient tool designs based on the requirements of the production process. Utilize CAD software to create detailed design drawings and specifications.
Prototyping: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build prototypes of tools and evaluate their performance. Make necessary adjustments and improvements to ensure optimal functionality.
Material Selection: Identify appropriate materials for tool construction based on factors such as durability, cost-effectiveness, and compatibility with manufacturing processes.
Manufacturing Oversight: Work closely with the tool room team and external vendors to oversee the fabrication and assembly of tools. Ensure adherence to design specifications and quality standards throughout the manufacturing process.
Testing and Validation: Conduct thorough testing and validation procedures to assess the performance and reliability of tools. Analyze test data and implement design modifications as needed to improve functionality.
Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of tool designs, specifications, and testing procedures. Keep records updated and organized for future reference.
Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends, advancements in tooling technology, and best practices in tool design. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and optimization of existing tools and processes.
Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless integration of tools into the production process. Provide technical support and guidance as needed.

Job Summary: The Tool Maker in the Tool Room is responsible for crafting, repairing, and maintaining precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in manufacturing processes. The role requires a high level of skill in operating machine tools and equipment, a strong understanding of tool design, and a meticulous attention to detail to ensure tools meet exact specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
• Tool and Die Manufacturing:
• Design, construct, and repair tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures according to engineering specifications and drawings.
• Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC machines to cut, shape, and finish tools.
• Perform precision measurements using instruments like calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure tools meet specifications.
• Maintenance and Repair:
• Inspect tools and dies to identify wear, damage, or defects and perform necessary repairs or modifications.
• Conduct regular maintenance on tools to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
• Quality Assurance:
• Perform quality checks and inspections on completed tools to ensure they meet industry standards and customer requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of tool fabrication, maintenance, and repairs.
• Collaboration:
• Work closely with engineering, production, and quality control teams to understand tool requirements and address any issues.
• Provide technical support and guidance to production staff on the proper use and maintenance of tools.
• Safety and Compliance:
• Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to tool making and manufacturing.
Qualifications:
• Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a formal apprenticeship program or vocational training in tool and die making preferred.
• Experience:
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Tool Maker in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in operating machine tools and equipment used in tool making.
