Roles and Responsibilities of a TIG Welder 1. Welding Operations
• Perform Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding on a variety of materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel.
• Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions based on job requirements.
• Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols to determine specifications and layouts.
• Equipment Setup and Maintenance
• Set up welding machines, select the appropriate electrodes, and adjust settings for optimal performance.
• Quality Control
• Inspect welds for accuracy, quality, and adherence to specifications using visual inspection and testing methods.
• Repair or rework defective welds to meet required standards.
• Ensure welds are free from cracks, voids, and imperfections.
• Inspect welding equipment for safety and functionality, performing minor maintenance or troubleshooting when necessary.
• Maintain clean and organized workstations to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Quality Control
• Inspect welds for accuracy, quality, and adherence to specifications using visual inspection and testing methods.
• Material Preparation
• Prepare materials for welding by cleaning, grinding, or cutting to remove contaminants.
• Fit and assemble components before welding to ensure proper alignment.
• Safety Compliance
• Follow all safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, helmets, and safety glasses.
• Adhere to workplace safety regulations and maintain awareness of potential hazards.
• Documentation and Reporting
• Maintain records of work completed, including material usage and project timelines.
• Report issues, delays, or equipment malfunctions to supervisors promptly.
• Repair or rework defective welds to meet required standards.
• Ensure welds are free from cracks, voids, and imperfections.
• Collaboration and Communication
• Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and other team members to achieve project objectives.
Required Skills and Qualifications
• Proficiency in TIG welding with experience in multiple metals.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and welding symbols.
• Knowledge of welding safety practices and the ability to work in a high-temperature environment
• Provide input for process improvements to enhance productivity and efficiency.
• Experience and Certifications
• Previous experience as a TIG welder (2-5 years preferred).
• Certification in welding (e.g., AWS or equivalent) is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with other welding techniques like MIG or ARC welding is a plus.
