Job Description

Assisting the surgeon

: Scrub nurses work directly with surgeons in the sterile field, passing them instruments and sponges, and helping with procedures.

Maintaining hygiene and sterility

: Scrub nurses keep surgical instruments clean and ready for use.

Monitoring patient vital signs

: Scrub nurses monitor and record a patient's vital signs throughout surgery.

Giving preoperative instructions

: Scrub nurses provide nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgery.

Ensuring instrument count

: Scrub nurses ensure that all instruments and sponges are accounted for and notify the surgeon of the count.

Putting away equipment

: Scrub nurses put away instruments and equipment after surgery.

Helping with dressing

: Scrub nurses help with dressing the patient after surgery.

Removing drapes

: Scrub nurses remove drapes after surgery.

De-gowning

: Scrub nurses de-gown the patient and prepare them for the recovery room.

Communicating

: Scrub nurses communicate clearly with surgeons and explain procedures to patients.
