  • This role involves providing support to various production departments with a focus on Maya and Houdini workflows.
  • The CG Technical Director will collaborate closely with our CG Leads, artists, and supervisors to design and develop tools that streamline current and future projects.
  • You should possess extensive knowledge of animation, modeling, lighting, and layout tools used in the CG/VFX industry, as well as related cross-pipeline workflows. Examples of responsibilities include developing Maya tools with user interfaces, creating complex tools and HDAs within Houdini, and crafting scripts that assist artists with repetitive tasks.
  • The CG Technical Director will not only take direction but also contribute ideas for enhancing efficiency and innovation.
  • This role demands effective teamwork in a dynamic commercial environment, where daily proactive problem-solving and artistic input are essential.
  • Additionally, collaboration with the global pipeline team to implement tools, report issues, and suggest workflow enhancements is key.
  • Strong communication skills are imperative.
  • The ideal candidate should also be capable of occasionally contributing to shot production work using Maya or Houdini, ideally demonstrating a generalist skill set.
Responsibilities:
  • Designing, developing, and implementing scripts and graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for the CG production pipeline.
  • Collaborating with CG Supervisors, leads, and artists to develop tools tailored to specific shows that enhance workflow efficiency.
  • Identifying and addressing workflow pain points during production, recommending and implementing improvements.
  • Troubleshooting challenges that arise during projects, collaborating with producers and supervisors to ensure timely delivery of projects with high-quality CG and motion graphics.
  • Staying updated on technological advancements and software innovations, ensuring familiarity with the best tools for the team.
  • Working with the global pipeline team to introduce new tools and workflows into our current pipeline while adhering to best practices.
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience working as a Generalist Technical Director or technically proficient CG Generalist with a diverse reel showcasing various styles and aesthetics.
  • In-depth understanding of techniques and technologies related to CG front-end pipelines and workflows.
  • Advanced proficiency in Maya, Houdini.
  • Strong scripting skills in Python, Pymel, Qt, PyQt, PySide.
  • Familiarity with VEX and C is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Arnold and Nuke.
  • Experience collaborating with concept artists, designers, and VFX teams in both 2D and 3D environments.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate ideas clearly within a team.
  • Strong collaboration skills, prioritizing teamwork.
  • Detail-oriented, capable of taking direction.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks according to production requirements.
  • Comfortable working under tight deadlines, thriving in a fast-paced global company committed to producing exceptional work across all areas.
