Should have worked in real time projects
Software design and architecture - Would be able to design the application architecture, class structures, APIs
Balances coding priorities - know how of how the code should be written primarily for robustness, maintainability, reusability, performance, scalability, security.
Quality oriented - understands the concept of test driven development, meets organizational expectations for testing & quality.
Problem solving and debugging skills - Has the tenacity to solve even very hard problems
Should have exposure to writing technical documents.

Essential
Programming skill : Core java, JSP & Servlets
Framework: JPA, Hibernate, Spring
Services: Web sockets, web services
App servers: Web logic, Jetty, Apache Design Pattern: JAVA J2EE
Scripts: Javascript, Ajax, Json, XML, XSLT, JQuery, JMS
DB: MSSQL, NoSQL Database
Tools: Jenkins, Maven, JUnit
OS: Linux
Desirable
SVN, Bit bucket, Git,
