Tech Lead \xe2\x80\x93 Database Engineer (Automation)Role ProfileJOB TITLE: Tech Lead \xe2\x80\x93 Database Engineer (Automation)DEPARTMENT: Foundation ServicesREPORTING TO: Senior Manager \xe2\x80\x93 Database SolutionsThe Tech Lead \xe2\x80\x93 Database Engineer (Automation) will provide production and development support for all LSEG BSL database applications. This includes designing, defining and implementing database systems with automation tools in accordance with industry standard methodologies and ensuring these systems are maintained to these standards.The Database Engineer will design and detail the strategies for backup and recovery, performance analysis, clustering, data management, user and developer assistance, and also be a point of escalation.The engineer will also be responsible for database connectivity using ODBC, JDBC or vendor specific architectures.Key responsibilities of the role:

• Develop and maintain database build standards including security to industry standards, patching and high availability.
• Monitor and handle database resources to ensure optimum performance.
• Document and run database server procedures such as backup and restore, upgrades and disaster recovery procedures.
• Undertake maintenance and upgrades, generally out of normal business hours including weekends.
• Provide database design support to development projects.
• Performance tuning and diagnostics.
• Review database application code, collaborate on code improvements and maintain the source code using standard company tooling.
• Assist Unix and Windows administrators to support applications requiring database expertise.
• Participate in shift cover and be available for on-call service. Shift cover will mean that you perform tasks that may be outside of the normal responsibilities.
• Define and maintain a strategy for database management to include both manual procedures/spot checks and automated alerts.
• Assist IT Security in maintaining an appropriate database security policy and evaluate applications to \xe2\x80\x98police\xe2\x80\x99 alignment to policy.

Key behaviours and skills required to be successful in the role:Have experience in supporting business critical applications and servers in a multi data center/ multisite environment. In particular the jobholder will demonstrate expertise in the following areas:Automation DBA.

• SRE / DevOps (Python, Terraform, Ansible,, Powershell Scripting / Bash / Korn Shell Scripting, GitHub/Gitlab, Bitbucket, Jenkins, Rundeck, Hashicorp Vault, docker, Kubernetes, helm charts etc.).
• RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL etc).
• Azure, AWS (RDS) Cloud Database Skills.

Extensive experience in Programming, Automation and DevOps. Familiar with Database Programming Languages: SQL Server TSQL Scripting, Oracle PL/SQL.OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Experience with Oracle (11g \xe2\x80\x93 19c), SQL Server (2008 \xe2\x80\x93 2022), or Sybase ASE (15 - 16) would be very favourably considered.
• High Availability and Disaster Recovery with different replication technologies.
• Experience of working in the finance/banking sector would be an advantage.
• Advanced problem solving skills, able to think clearly under pressure and across technology boundaries.
• Able to prioritise work and present a clear list of tasks and time frames to management.
• Understanding of ITIL Service Framework.
• Familiarity with monitoring products.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Experience with Delphix.
• Experience in Citrix, Web Development, Control-M, Service Now.
• Skills in Perl scripting and other Database technologies such as MySQL, MongoDB.
• Familiar with Distributed Transactions and Data Warehousing.
