The Role


Where you fit in Shells Contracting & Procurement (C&P) organization procures an average of $40 Billion of goods and services from third parties on behalf of the organizations various Downstream businesses every day. We are committed to facilitating a profitable Downstream & Functions business. Within our C&P organization, the Market Intelligence & Category Analysis (MICA) Team is part of the Supply Chain Strategy division and has been consistently recognized as a very high performing team within Shell C&P. The team has a history of grooming some of the most successful supply chain professionals for Shell globally. The Supply Chain Analyst role is central to MICAs delivery and requires a highly competitive individual to bring strategic and impactful analytical insights to various categories and assets. Whats the role? In this role, you will work with Shells Category and frontline teams to identify hard dollar value opportunities, gap to potential for categories and assets through should cost modelling, market intelligence, benchmarking, identifying decarbonization and digitalization opportunities, and CP best practices. You are also expected to guide and influence the frontline teams and category teams to implement the analysis and turn them into actual Capital expenditure (Capex) and Operating expense (Opex) savings. Furthermore, you will build and maintain robust stakeholder relationships by working closely with cross business and competitive intelligence teams. Given the highly competitive environment in the energy industry and Shells ambitions considering its Powering Progress strategy, you are expected to be highly analytical and articulate and maintain focus on Shells General Business Principles and E&C (Ethics and Compliance) standards. Being part of the MICA team involves:
  • Being a committed team player willing to learn from and share across the team.
  • Being highly analytical and effective in communication, engaging in cost modelling and benchmarking projects and provide analytical insights across range of categories in the Oil and gas and Renewable Energy supply chains and guide frontlines in implementing the analytical insights.
  • Working across assets to develop country and Asset specific supply chain insights.
  • Identifying opportunities in sustainability and energy transition related to Oil and Gas, and other industries.
  • Analysing market and industry information to produce insights which feed as inputs to other projects, recommendations, and tracking signals.
  • Providing outputs/communication in the form of presentations, reports, analysis etc. as required.
  • Producing thought papers on best practices/emerging trends in Supply chain excellence and support C&P category and frontline team in implementing these best practices.
What we need from you? Were keen to hear from individuals with at least 5 years professional experience in areas related to contracting and procurement, focusing on technical and/or commercial aspects of business-related contracting, procurement and strategic sourcing. Beyond that, wed like to see the following on your CV:
  • Strong analytical abilities, able to handle and interpret large volumes of data, and out of box thinking to provide valuable insights on economic, technical, financial and/or commercial areas to support decision making.
  • A Learner Mindset with the ability to learn new categories, areas and be open to dive into technology aspects with the objective of enriching their commercial deliveries.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Exposure to contracting and procurement, strategic sourcing, market analysis and commercial analysis of capital projects, operating assets in the oil and gas, energy, and power space is an advantage.
  • Management consulting experience will be an added advantage.
  • Exposure to Procurement Categories of Rotating Equipment, Instrumentation, Automation, Electrical, Materials, EPC, Fabrication pertaining to Oil and Gas, Power or Renewable energy space would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work in a consulting environment on projects with varying complexity and high ambiguity.
  • Mature attitude coupled with effective interpersonal skills, communication & listening skills.
  • Strong people skills and ability to work in ever evolving teams as well as delivering through others. Good relationship skills are key as the work includes regular interaction with a broad range of stakeholders and at varying levels of seniority.
  • Proficiency across Microsoft tools like PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Visio.
  • Willingness and behavioural ability to travel and work internationally on short-term assignments.
