As a Nurse, you will be responsible for safely and effectively administering contrast agents to patients undergoing imaging procedures such as CT scans, MRI scans, angiograms, and interventional radiology procedures. Your role will involve assessing patients, obtaining vascular access through cannulation, administering contrast media, and monitoring patients during and after the procedure to ensure their safety and well-being. Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment: Assess patients\' medical history, allergies, and suitability for contrast administration. Identify contraindications and potential risks associated with contrast media.
Vascular Access: Perform venipuncture and cannulation to establish intravenous (IV) access for contrast administration. Ensure proper technique and patient comfort.
Contrast Administration: Calculate and administer appropriate doses of contrast media according to protocol. Monitor patients closely for any adverse reactions.
Patient Monitoring: Monitor patients during and after contrast administration for signs of allergic reactions, such as rash, itching, or respiratory distress. Respond promptly to any complications or emergencies.
Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of contrast administration, patient vital signs, and any adverse reactions. Ensure all records are complete and comply with regulatory standards.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with radiologists, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and optimize imaging procedures.
Quality Assurance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines for contrast administration to ensure patient safety and quality of care. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and compliance audits.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Valid nursing license and registration in the relevant jurisdiction.
Experience in vascular access and IV therapy.
Knowledge of contrast media types, administration techniques, and safety protocols.
Strong assessment skills and ability to recognize and respond to adverse reactions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
