The MICU Staff Nurse is a critical role responsible for providing high-quality, compassionate, and specialized nursing care to critically ill patients in the Medical Intensive Care Unit. This position requires a strong understanding of medical procedures, advanced monitoring, and life-saving interventions. The MICU nurse will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals, to provide intensive care and support for patients with severe medical conditions.
Experience:
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in an ICU or critical care setting preferred.
• Experience in a Medical ICU (MICU) or similar environment is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments on critically ill patients upon admission and throughout their stay.
• Monitor and assess patients' conditions, including vital signs, neurological status, respiratory function, and cardiovascular health.
• Administer prescribed medications, intravenous fluids, and other treatments as ordered by physicians.
• Provide ongoing evaluations of patients' conditions and initiate appropriate interventions based on clinical changes.
• Assist with life-saving procedures such as intubation, central line insertion, and mechanical ventilation management.
• Use advanced equipment (e.g., ventilators, dialysis machines, infusion pumps, cardiac monitors) and provide proper care in line with unit protocols.
• Coordinate and administer emergency interventions as required, including resuscitation and stabilization efforts.
• Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families about the patient's condition, treatment options, and expected outcomes.
• Serve as a liaison between patients' families and the healthcare team, ensuring clear communication and involvement in care decisions.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, documenting care, treatments, and responses to interventions.
• Report any significant changes in a patient's condition to the healthcare team promptly.
• Work closely with the medical team, including physicians, specialists, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers.
• Participate in daily rounds, contributing insights and observations to enhance patient care planning.
• Adhere to hospital protocols and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Follow strict infection control practices, including proper hand hygiene, sterile techniques, and isolation protocols as needed.
• Ensure the safe administration of medications, including IV drugs and blood products, in accordance with hospital policies.
