Patient care

Assisting patients with bathing, including their mouth, nails, and pressure points Monitoring vital signs Providing wound care Managing medical equipment Giving and removing bed pans and urine pots
Medication Administering medication and treatments and Managing medication. Patient records

Recording medical history and symptoms Keeping detailed records of patients' medical histories, treatments, and progress
Education

Educating patients about management of illnesses Educating people and families within care settings and during discharge
Care coordination

Developing care plans based on a person's needs and preferences Facilitating continuity of care for people across settings and providers
Other responsibilities Championing patient rights, Operating medical equipment, and Performing diagnostic tests. SkillsSome key skills for a staff nurse include empathy, communication, physical stamina, technology skills, problem-solving skills, and patience.
