Coordinates and collaborates with physicians, nurses and ancillary health care members in the care of paediatric patients undergoing BMT.
Fills accurately, efficiently and clearly nursing notes and other relevant information such laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies in BMT Plus online database.
Assures updated personal knowledge and skills relating to:
-Haematology/oncology patient care
-Administration of high-dose therapy
-Administration of immunosuppressive medications
-Management of infectious complications in immune compromised hosts
-Administration of blood products
-Infection prevention and control
-Administration of the preparative regimen
-Bone marrow administration
-Central venous catheter care
Provides direct care as needed within scope of practice and doctors' orders.
Assists in reviewing individual health status of patients undergoing BMT.
Prepares, distributes, and administers scheduled medications to patients.
Communicates with the physician to inform, clarify, or modify individual treatment plans.
Schedule and obtain lab studies, arrange transport of specimens to appropriate laboratory and follow up on results to be reviewed.
Coordinate transport of patients to other medical facility as needed.
Ensures disease specific needs of patients are identified and met.
Contributes to BMT service manual, policies and procedures.
Is required to attend classes pertaining to education of the BMT unit personnel concerning patient care and treatment. Also required to keep themselves thoroughly well versed with respect to Standard Operating Procedures pertaining to the BMT unit.
Participates in patient and family education activities.
Participates as a member of health care team to welcome and facilitate volunteer personnel.
Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
