• Patient Care :
• Provide care for critically ill patients with complex, multi-system health problems.
• Monitor vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, and blood transfusions as per doctor's orders.
• Manage ventilators, catheters, and other life-support equipment.
• Perform nursing interventions like suctioning, wound care, and repositioning to maintain patient comfort.
• Patient Monitoring :
• Continuously observe patients' status, identifying changes in condition and taking prompt action as needed.
• Record and interpret patient data using ICU equipment such as monitors, ventilators, and infusion pumps.
• Report significant changes in patient conditions to physicians and other healthcare team members.
• Collaborative Care :
• Work in a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with physicians, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, and dietitians.
• Assist in emergency procedures like CPR, intubation, and the insertion of central lines.
• Coordinate and participate in patient care planning and ensure the delivery of evidence-based care.
• Documentation :
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting all care provided and changes in patient condition.
• Ensure compliance with ICU protocols, policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare handover reports for the next shift to ensure continuity of care.
• Family Support :
• Communicate with patients' families, providing updates on patient conditions and care plans.
• Offer emotional support and guidance, helping families understand medical procedures and the critical nature of care.
• Safety and Infection Control :
• Adhere to infection control protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of ICU equipment.
• Maintain a safe environment, preventing patient injuries and complications like hospital-acquired infections (HAIs).
• Education and Training :
• Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with ICU nursing practices and technology.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior nurses or nursing students in the ICU.
Qualifications :
• Education :
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Current state nursing license (Registered Nurse - RN).
• Certifications :
• Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
• Critical Care Nursing Certification (CCRN) (preferred but not mandatory).
• Experience :
• Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience, preferably in an ICU or critical care setting.
Skills :
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in using ICU-specific equipment and technology.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to stay calm and effective under pressure.
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
Physical Demands :
• Ability to lift and position patients.
• Extended periods of standing, walking, and moving in the ICU environment.
• Flexibility to work long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
