About the Role As an engineer on uMetric i.e. Uber\'s Metric Platform, you will work on batch and nearline streaming systems as well as distributed systems building Uber\'s metrics store. Focusing on Metric products, you\'ll work directly with end users to understand their use cases to design and build generalized solutions. Influence, define and own the vision and roadmap for the product. Interact with users directly to understand pain points and improve the systems. Raise the code quality bar and define the technical direction for the uMetric product stack. Collaborate with other members of the team to ship complex projects fast and with quality. You will design, code, test, and launch new data engineering pipelines and ML-based product features at global scale. Solve challenging data problems with cutting edge design and algorithms. Coach and mentor junior and new team members. ---- Basic Qualifications ---- BS, MS in Computer Science, Maths or a related technical field, or equivalent experience. 5+ years of experience in software engineering focusing on large-scale systems and/or data engineering. Sound understanding of Computer architecture and CS fundamentals. Proficient in one or more object-oriented programming languages: Java, GoLang, C++. ---- What the Candidate Will Do ---- Good problem solving and analytical skills. Knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis. Understanding of distributed systems and architecture. Proven experience in large-scale distributed storage and database systems (SQL or NoSQL, e.g. MySQL, Cassandra). Experience with data-driven architecture and systems design knowledge of Hadoop related technologies such as HDFS, Apache Spark, Apache Flink, Hive, and Presto.
