Overview

Our Data pipelines ( Kafka , Qlik , Kinesis etc) and ETL platforms are a critical component of compliance, reporting, accounting, and billing across Avalara\'s products. These applications need to provide not only 100% uptime but absolute accuracy of document recording and storage for Avatax, Returns, EU VAT, ORL , Comms etc. The Confluent Kafka Platform Engineer is based in Pune to cover 24x7 support and help engineering teams with troubleshooting, architectural design, and performance issues proactively along with addressing new use cases and bugs. Our data pipelines also set to expand into other Avalara SIG products for all data compliance and reporting aspects.
Responsibilities

• Perform Kafka Cluster build, upgrade including Design, Infrastructure planning, High Availability and Disaster Recovery
• Collaborate among development teams, product Managers, operations teams, and architect groups.
• Build Grafana dashboards for Observability and Auditing needs using Metrics APIs. Creation of key performance metrics, measuring the utilization, performance, and overall health of the cluster.
• Capacity planning and implementation of new/upgraded hardware and software releases as well as storage infrastructure.
• Configure various Open source and licensed Kafka Source/Sink Connectors such as Kafka Connect for S3, Snowflake, MongoDB, SQL, etc.
• Design and build multi-cloud Kafka clusters with live replication and develop the scripts to failover with minimum downtime and no data loss.
• Document and share design, build, upgrade, and standard operating procedures. Conduct knowledge transfer sessions and workshops for other members of the team. Provide technical expertise and guidance to new and junior members of the team.

Qualifications

• 6+ years combined in data platform engineer , object-oriented languages (python, C#, JAVA), DevOps, distributed cloud architecture, high availability production system deployment experience.
• Confluent Kafka (Admin/Product) and Confluent Cloud on AWS /GCP (Hybrid)
• Familiarity with data serialization formats like Avro, JSON, and Protobuf for Kafka data.
• Knowledge of Kafka security features, including SSL encryption and authentication.
• Experience in Upgrades for the Kafka Cluster landscape comprising Development, Test, Staging, and Production/DR systems.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka Brokers and understanding of underlying functionality.
• Hands-on experience with Schema Registry and understanding of underlying functionality.
• Hands-on experience with KSQL DB and understanding of underlying implementation and functionality.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka connectors and understanding of underlying implementation and functionality.
• Good understanding of Kafka client (Producer and consumer) functionality.
• Ability to design and implement technical solutions for the Kafka On-prem and Confluent Cloud platform.
• Working knowledge of Terraform, Grafana , Kubernetes and other open-source tools.
• Understanding of AWS and GCP cloud to support confluent Kafka on cloud.
• Proven ability to combine business acumen, technical acumen, and process expertise to define client (internal/external) engagement and program execution . Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders across multiple business units.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
