Position Title: Speech Therapist (Speech-Language Pathologist)
Job Summary:
The Speech Therapist (Speech-Language Pathologist) is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating communication and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages. The therapist will work closely with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to create individualized treatment plans that address speech, language, voice, and fluency issues, as well as feeding and swallowing difficulties. The goal is to improve the client's communication abilities and overall quality of life through evidence-based practices.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct comprehensive assessments of speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing abilities.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to address identified communication and swallowing challenges.
• Provide therapy for speech and language disorders, including articulation, phonology, fluency (stuttering), and expressive/receptive language delays.
• Assist clients with voice and resonance disorders, including vocal cord issues.
• Provide interventions for cognitive-communication disorders, addressing memory, attention, and problem-solving.
• Implement strategies and therapy for feeding and swallowing difficulties (dysphagia).
• Educate and collaborate with clients, families, and caregivers on therapy strategies and home exercises to support on-going progress.
• Use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems when appropriate to assist clients with complex communication needs.
• Maintain detailed and accurate records of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and patient outcomes.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, educators, and family members to ensure integrated care.
• Provide support for early intervention, school-based services, rehabilitation, and outpatient care as needed.
Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
• Valid state licensure or certification to practice Speech-Language Pathology.
• Experience working with children and/or adults in clinical, educational, or rehabilitation settings.
• Strong understanding of communication and swallowing disorders, including evidence-based treatment methods.
Skills & Competencies:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt therapy techniques to individual client needs.
• Patience, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with clients of all ages.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Proficiency in using therapy tools, augmentative communication devices, and technology.
Preferred Experience:
• 1-2 years of experience in speech therapy, especially in early intervention, rehabilitation, or school-based services.
• Familiarity with assistive technologies, such as augmentative communication devices, is an asset.
