Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educator to join our team. The Special Educator will work with students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. The successful candidate will develop teaching plans tailored to each student's needs, provide individualized instruction, and collaborate with other educators, parents, and professionals to ensure the best educational outcomes for our students.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Individualized Education Program (IEP) Development:
Develop, implement, and evaluate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student.
Assess students' skills to determine their needs and develop teaching plans.
2. Instruction and Adaptation:
Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment.
Adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects to students with disabilities.
Use special education strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
3. Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with parents, teachers, and other professionals to develop, review, and revise IEPs.
Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and any issues that arise.
Serve as a resource for general education teachers and staff to ensure the integration of students into mainstream classes.
4. Classroom Management:
Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students.
Implement behavioral management strategies to ensure a safe and supportive classroom environment.
5. Professional Development:
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with new teaching strategies, technologies, and developments in the field of special education.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
6. Record Keeping and Compliance:
Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding special education.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
Strong knowledge of current special education practices and methodologies.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with special needs.
School-based environment with standard working hours.
Interaction with students, teachers, parents, and administrative staff.
