A sound technician's job description varies depending on the type of production, but generally involves setting up, operating, and maintaining sound equipment:
• Theater Set up soundboards and equipment, position microphones, check sound levels, and run sound checks. Sound technicians may also design sound, prepare sound plots, and fit radio microphones to performers.
• Film and TV Set up and maintain audio hardware, keep the set quiet, and help resolve audio problems. Sound technicians may also provide stand-in sound effects, write sound reports, and lay down acoustic carpeting.
• Broadcasting Set up, operate, and maintain equipment to record, amplify, enhance, mix, or reproduce sound. Sound technicians may also edit videotape after production.
Sound technicians may also be responsible for:
