Position Overview:
A Solar Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on residential, commercial, and industrial properties. The role involves working with electrical systems, ensuring the proper functioning of solar panels, and adhering to safety and technical standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Installation:
• Assemble and install solar panels and PV systems according to design blueprints and manufacturer specifications.
• Mount panels on roofs or other structures using various tools and techniques.
• Connect PV systems to the electrical grid or battery systems.
• Maintenance and Repair:
• Perform regular maintenance checks to ensure optimal performance of solar systems.
• Diagnose and repair system malfunctions, including electrical faults.
• Replace damaged components such as inverters, wiring, or panels.
• Testing and Inspection:
• Conduct system performance testing using specialized equipment.
• Inspect installations to ensure compliance with local codes and standards.
• Customer Service:
• Educate clients on system operation and maintenance requirements.
• Address customer concerns or issues promptly and professionally.
• Documentation:
• Maintain detailed records of installations, maintenance, and repairs.
• Complete necessary paperwork for permits and system certifications.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Technical Skills:
• Understanding of solar energy systems and electrical wiring.
• Familiarity with tools and equipment for solar installation.
• Knowledge of local electrical codes and safety regulations.
• Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
• Physical strength to lift and handle equipment and materials.
• Problem-Solving Skills:
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and find effective solutions.
• Certifications and Education:
• Diploma or degree in electrical engineering or a related field (preferred).
• Certification as a solar installer or technician (e.g., NABCEP certification).
• Valid driver's license for travel to job sites.
Work Environment:
Solar Technicians often work outdoors, sometimes in challenging conditions. They may need to travel to different locations and work irregular hours to meet project deadlines.
