• 7+ years of engineering experience
• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams
• Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems


Amazon's global fulfillment network enables any merchant to ship items that are ordered on Amazon to any place on earth. There is a complex network of ways in which items move between vendor locations, Amazon warehouses, and customer locations as well as several intermediate locations through which packages travel before reaching the customer. With a scale of millions of packages, each with different attributes and delivery requirements, what results is a highly dense graph of nodes.



Amazon Shipping launched in the UK in 2016. We focused on offering the most reliable next day coverage network in the UK for parcel delivery, utilizing both AMZL and Royal Mail (RM) for last mile delivery. Later, we moved beyond serving only SFP volume expanding into MFN-core, DF, Off-Amazon, and new geographies (US, IN, and FRITES) to diversify our portfolio with multiple demand streams to drive faster, sustainable growth and increase package density to improve our financials.



We have built a highly respected software engineering team which is focused on solving complex problems in worldwide transportation using workflows, optimization algorithms, and machine learning systems. These are large-scale distributed systems handling millions of packages being shipped through the Amazon logistics network.



We are looking for Software Development Manager with solid Software engineering fundamentals involving solving complex problems. He/She will get to work on some of the key initiatives planned to support our rapid evolution and growth of the transportation network and in the process solve some of the most challenging problems. They will provide the technical leadership to the team, drive best practices, mentor other engineers and drive continuous improvements in engineering excellence.



Key job responsibilities

Work closely with software developers and managers to architect and develop the best technical designs, architectures and implementations.

Develop monthly, quarterly and yearly strategy and roadmaps for the team based on project priorities and project benefit.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.

Work with Product and Program Managers to develop and evolve the vision and strategy for the team.

Use Agile principles to run the development lifecycle for team's applications and services.

Manage, execute and communicate project plans and delivery commitments.

Staff, mentor, enhance and maintain a best-of-class software development teams.



About the team

The team Shipment Creation and Fulfillment (SCF) within Amazon Shipping delivers best-in-class fulfillment experience for our customers. Our charter drives three key elements shippers seek in a carrier: convenience, coverage, and reliability. We achieve this by: 1) providing flexible and scalable shipment creation solutions across all channels for our shippers, 2) building scalable and frictionless integration solutions with external Order Management Systems, 3) offering uninterrupted shipping service to our customers through E2E network capacity reservation and enhanced network monitoring capabilities, and 4) provide faster and more accurate promises to retail customers and shippers to enable volume growth



• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
