Social Science Teacher
Job Description
Social science teachers have many duties, including:
• Lesson planning : Create lesson plans that align with state and national standards.
• Teaching : Instruct students on social science topics such as history, geography, anthropology, economics, and sociology.
• Grading : Grade exams and written assignments.
• Classroom discipline : Maintain classroom discipline and manage student behavior.
• Communication : Communicate with parents and students about performance and progress.
• Current events : Explain current events in the classroom, such as those related to history, geography, environment, or economics.
• Professional relationships : Develop professional relationships with other agencies and programs.
• Student performance : Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback.
• Critical thinking : Foster critical thinking and encourage informed civil discourse.
• Civic responsibilities : Nurture an understanding of civic responsibilities.
Social science teachers should have a strong knowledge base of social studies, excellent communication skills, and the ability to inspire and motivate students.
