Roles & Responsibilities
The Senior Manager/Manager of Material Management in the Primary Metals and Metal Products division is responsible for overseeing the efficient handling, storage, and distribution of raw materials and finished products within the manufacturing facility. They play a crucial role in optimizing inventory levels, reducing costs, and ensuring timely delivery of materials to support production schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement strategic plans for material management to optimize inventory levels while minimizing carrying costs.
• Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of raw materials, negotiate contracts, and maintain strong vendor relationships.
• Collaborate with production and procurement teams to forecast material requirements and ensure adequate stock levels to meet production schedules.
• Oversee the scheduling and coordination of material movements within the facility to support production activities.
• Implement efficient material handling procedures to minimize waste, improve productivity, and enhance safety.
• Ensuring timely procurement of raw materials and supplies according to product and project specifications to meet production target as per customer requirements, while optimizing costs
• Monitor inventory levels and develop inventory control measures to minimize stockouts and excess inventory.
• Stay updated on industry regulations, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and ensure that all raw material that is delivered should meet relevant industry standards such as ASTM, IS, BS standards as per customer needs.
• Ensuring timely procurement of Engineering Equipment, Projects & Capital Equipment, Process and Utility equipment, Packing material, etc. as per the plan
• Identify potential suppliers, source materials from approved suppliers, negotiate contracts, and manage vendor relationships. Develop and comply to risk management practices regarding supply contracts and agreements.
• Implement just-in-time (JIT) inventory practices to reduce storage costs and enhance operational efficiency.
• Oversee shipping, receiving, warehousing and stores related activities to ensure timely delivery of materials.
• Ensure materials acquisition and storage comply with company and government guidelines.
• Provide procurement related inputs in project proposals that include feasibility reports/ costs-benefit analyses.
• Review annual Contracts for indirect spend, AMCs for Machinery, Engineering and Utility equipment.
• Monitoring budgets, MIS reports, Vendor Development, and management.
• Supervise, evaluate, and coach staff members by setting goals, directions and KRAs for the team.
• Ensuring training and counselling of team members as and when required.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education and Certifications:
• Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field.
• PGDM/MBA in supply chain management, or a related field will be highly preferable.
Experience:
• 6 to 16 years of proven experience in Production Planning and Scheduling in foundries or casting manufacturing operations.
• In-depth knowledge of supply chain and inventory management systems
• Hands-on experience with procurement related forecasting and budgeting
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and develop effective solutions.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines.
• Strong business acumen and financial management skills along with high level of negotiation skills.
• Conversant with ERP modules.
• Good in Capital purchase and must be a master in Raw material purchase for Casting Manufacturing Industry.
Technical / Functional Expertise & other competencies:
• Basic understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 standards for documentation related to planning and scheduling.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications and other relevant software.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders.
