Job Title: Shadow Teacher



Job Purpose:



The Shadow Teacher's primary responsibility is to assist students with special educational needs (SEN) by providing individualized support within the classroom. This support aims to help the student access the curriculum, participate in classroom activities, and achieve their full academic and social potential.

Key Responsibilities:



Individualized Support:

Work with students on a one-on-one basis to provide tailored support. Assist in the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs). Provide extra help with tasks such as reading, writing, and mathematical activities.

Classroom Support:

Assist the student during lessons to ensure they are engaged, focused, and able to follow the lesson. Adapt resources, materials, and tasks to meet the student's specific learning needs. Provide support during group activities and encourage social interaction with peers.

Behavioral and Emotional Support:

Help manage classroom behavior by using positive reinforcement techniques. Offer emotional support to students who may feel anxious, frustrated, or overwhelmed. Assist in promoting inclusion and social development.

Monitoring and Reporting:

Monitor the student's progress and provide feedback to the class teacher and relevant staff. Document observations of the student's progress, behavior, and social interactions. Assist in preparing progress reports and reviewing IEP goals.

Collaboration:

Collaborate with the class teacher, SEN coordinator, and other staff members to ensure the best educational outcomes for the student. Communicate regularly with the student's parents/guardians about progress and concerns. Attend meetings, training sessions, and workshops as required.

Promote Independence:

Encourage the student to become more independent in their learning and daily tasks. Support the student in developing coping strategies for managing challenges.

General Classroom Duties:

Assist with classroom routines, including preparation of materials and classroom management. Supervise students during breaks, lunch, and other non-classroom times.

Skills and Qualifications:



Qualifications:

A minimum of a high school diploma; additional qualifications in special education, child development, or a related field are desirable.

Experience:

Experience working with children, especially those with special educational needs, is preferred.

Skills:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Patience, empathy, and a nurturing attitude. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Understanding of special educational needs and disabilities. Flexibility and adaptability in meeting the needs of the student.

Working Conditions:



The role is typically based in the school during term times, with working hours aligned to the school's schedule. This is often a part-time position, but full-time options may also be available. May require some flexibility to attend additional meetings, training, or events related to the student's needs.
