he Shadow Teacher provides individualized support to a student with unique learning needs, ensuring they can participate fully in classroom activities and achieve their academic and social potential. This role involves working directly with the student, collaborating with the classroom teacher, and assisting with various educational tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
• Student Support:
• Assist the student with academic tasks, including reading, writing, and mathematical activities.
• Provide support during classroom activities and transitions.
• Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and modifications as outlined by the school or special education team.
• Help the student with organizational skills, task management, and following classroom routines.
• Classroom Integration:
• Support the student's social interactions with peers and promote positive behavior in the classroom.
• Facilitate the student's participation in group activities and discussions.
• Monitor and address any behavioral or social challenges, working with the student to develop coping strategies.
• Collaboration:
• Work closely with the classroom teacher to understand lesson plans and adapt materials as needed.
• Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding the student's progress and any concerns.
• Participate in meetings related to the student's education, such as IEP meetings or team planning sessions.
• Documentation:
• Maintain records of the student's progress, including academic achievements, behavioral observations, and any issues encountered.
• Prepare and provide feedback to the teacher and special education team.
• Professional Development:
• Stay updated with best practices in special education and student support.
• Attend relevant training and professional development sessions as required.
Qualifications:
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in education, psychology, or a related field preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience working with students with special needs or in a similar support role is highly desirable.
• Skills:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to the needs of individual students.
