Software Web Developer

About our Team:

• The Web Presence team are in the process of rebuilding elsevier.com from the ground up.
• We primarily look after the core content delivery and journeys, and the core platform itself (inc. design systems, applications, search and discovery, forms, analytics, infrastructure etc.).
• Other areas of the business are also contributing and using the platform to deliver new e-commerce shops, support portals, and campaign microsites.
• We work closely with multiple business units to help them support the various personas using Elsevier\xe2\x80\x99s websites including medical professionals, authors, researchers, corporate/institutional and private/personal customers, and more.
• The current website attracts upwards of 3 million unique visitors per month.

About the Role:

• We are searching for a senior software engineer to help us support and continue to develop our primary customer facing websites.
• You will be joining a team of 8 engineers, working with a modern tech stack, to develop a best-in-breed, inner-sourced platform for serving product and content to millions of users every month.
• We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for a strong all-rounder who\xe2\x80\x99s comfortable writing or reviewing features in both front and back-end areas of the platform.
• We believe in putting people over projects and placing emphasis on learning and development. As a senior engineer, you\xe2\x80\x99ll also play a key role in helping us develop people - through active mentoring, peer review, pairing, and career discussions with other members of the team.
• We ship multiple applications multiple times a day, employ a continuous deployment strategy, use mono-repos, and lean heavily on automated tests and monitoring.
• You can expect to ship code in your first few days, and would be expected to maintain, and improve standards to keep the platform clean and safe for everyone who contributes to it.
• You will be given flexibility and autonomy - you\xe2\x80\x99ll know what the next most important thing is for yourself, and the team to be working on, and why it\xe2\x80\x99s important. How you deliver it is largely up to you provided you can communicate a plan and bring the team with you.

About the Responsibilities:

• Working in Application design, composition, and specification
• Implementing features and refactoring.
• Coaching & mentoring.

About the Requirement:

Recommended Experience:

• 5+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in software engineering.
• Have demonstrated knowledge of TypeScript, or similar strongly typed languages.
• Have GraphQL experience.
• Have React/NextJS experience.
