We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Vice President - Sustainability Analysis Unit
Principal responsibilities
• Lead a team for Sustainability Analysis Unit team by providing high-quality functional support to analysts and stakeholders, with the objective of achieving service excellence.
• The key responsibility will be to manage external disclosure and assurance for HSBC climate risk reporting requirements. The role manages the external reporting process and manage all inputs that contribute to the external disclosure production process.
• This role entails the need to possess notable skills in communicating and engaging with multiple stakeholders across regions/teams, multitasking and effective time management.
• The captioned role is a critical position within the wider Wholesale Sustainability team. The role will ensure the bank will successfully meet assurance standards and external disclosure requirements. This demonstrates the efficacy of internal control and operational framework. The role is dedicated to delivering current and forward-looking solutions to support the bank's strategic objectives in growth, simplification, and policy interpretation.
• Coordinate and design key methodology around external disclosure reporting objectives linked to policy reporting and offer extensive support within the Wholesale business, in addition to collaboratively working with functional counterparts to deliver external assurance requirements.
• This role will ensure that internal methodology such as internal procedures to derive exposure and emissions calculations are accurately documented.
• The role will ensure that governance on internal and external documents plus decisions have appropriate evidencing and governance standards meeting expectations of assurance and audit.
• The role will ensure that ESG analysts prepare analysis to inform and support management decision making, that is traceable and able to pass necessary assurance testing held against it.
• The role will act as a liaison between internal and external assurance providers and the multiple business lines and functions upstream of the process.
• The role will assist in standardizing and embedding existing processes for reporting Sustainability metrics, working closely with the ESG Data Analytics Office and Entity Resolution teams to identify in scope populations.
• The role will also facilitate in agreeing methodology and policy alignment with Climate Aligned Finance and Group Sustainability Risk on policy and methodology matters.
• This role will also support in coordinating the closure of any MSIIs, Audit Issues or Risk/Control Gaps linked to in scope disclosures.
• The role will also assist sponsor development of relevant tools for capturing evidence to support reporting of metrics and develop regular MI reporting tools.
• The role will also assist with the Sustainability Analysis Unit to conduct client level investigations and agree prioritizations and capacity planning.
• The role will also assist ongoing engagement with Global and Regional ESG Sustainability Leads in respect of implementation plans and prioritization.
• The role will also assist support of the Sustainability Process Development and Assurance lead to engage with 2LoD and external audit on assurance of Sustainability Reporting including addressing any methodology or client level findings.
• The capacity and the maturity to constantly guide and motivate team members to deliver high quality of submissions is a vital component of this role.
• Responsible for talent management & succession planning. Should be resolution focused and effective time and meeting management skills.
• He/she should share domain expertise with the team members to nurture their skills and understanding of climate related concepts.
• Ensure that all work is delivered within agreed timeframes, PLAs and meets the required high-quality standard.
• Understand and comply with all relevant policies, FIM guidelines and procedures issued by the Group.
• Proactively suggest and design improvements in process workflow, where applicable.
• Information Management: Provide support to ensure that all project related data is accurately and timeously updated for efficient and periodic generation of MI.
• Represent CAU in various mancomms, regional meetings and strategic planning.
• Maintain HSBC internal control standards.
• Need to be aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with their role, and to ensure that all actions during their employment with HSBC take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring.
Requirements
• At least 15 years of relevant work experience in a mix of activities like Credit Analysis, Corporate Banking, Sustainability, Climate risk and assurance domains backed by demonstrated analytical expertise and team management skills.
• Chartered Accountants / master's in business, Finance, Economics or equivalent is essential and any professional qualification (i.e. CFA, Chartered Banker) is desirable. Any specific education or certification in ESG/ Climate Risk and an assurance background will be preferred.
• Highly customer oriented and delivering top quality customer service.
• Strong people management, people development and stakeholder management experience.
• Strong domain knowledge & diversified sector experience
• Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; strong ability to portray a macro view and also an eye for detail.
• Candidate needs to have knowledge of ESG frameworks (particularly climate and transition) and related banking products.
• Experience in managing and responding to external auditor requests, with 'working understanding' assurance, experience with external assurance procedures and process to be able to challenge where necessary.
• Commercial outlook - able to connect numbers, performance drivers and 'real world' events.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships.
• Highly proficient at Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills in English.
• Experience in working in an offshore organization and demonstrable ability to navigate and influence a diverse set of senior stakeholders.
• Project management skills, including creating lean processes and governance structures.
