Job Description

The Site Safety Engineer (SSE) is primarily responsible for conducting site works inspections, identifying potential hazards, and implementing corrective actions as necessary. SSE shall, as required, develop, monitor, and enforce safety regulations and procedures to maintain a secure work environment at the construction site. The SSE shall collaborate closely with stakeholders including Site Works Contractors, Consultants, Third Parties, On-Site Workers and Site operatives to promote a culture of safety through training and ensure compliance with approved EHSS requirements.


Key Responsibilities:


• Conduct regular inspections of works at construction site to ensure compliance with approved procedures and instructions.


• Identify unsafe practices and potential hazards in construction activities, use of equipment, materials handling, access and egress, emergency preparedness etc.


• Document inspection findings, including observations, violations, and corrective actions, on a daily basis and via ad-hoc detailed reports.


• Collaborate with resident construction managers, project managers, supervisors, workers and employees to address safety concerns and promptly implement corrective measures.


• Conduct regular safety training and orientation for new employees, workers and visitors emphasising mandatory compliances, procedural requirements, best practices and regulatory requirements.


• Ensure proper usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety gear via work specific training, toolbox talks and inspections.


• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective and preventive measures.


• Report health and safety statistics, manpower, working and non-working days/ hours, training, work specific EHSS issues and concerns, EHSS performance against benchmarks and recommend improvement measures.


• Review and assist in the development of project specific guidelines & procedures.


• Identify and escalate non compliances, repetitive incidents, acts of wilful negligence etc. to Owner representative and RCM.



Qualification, Skills and Experience:


• Bachelor`s degree in environmental science, safety, chemical, engineering, or a related field in Environmental Health & Safety or equivalent. Equivalent professional experience may be considered in place of a formal degree.
• Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH) is desirable.
• 5-7 years of overall experience, with 3 - 4 years of on-site construction or operations experience, preferably in O&G, Chemicals or Fertiliser industry.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience in developing new and /or modifying existing procedures and conducting job specific training.
• Experience in investigating root cause of incidents and performing analysis of corrective action for EHS incidents and near misses.
