Job Summary:The Senior Resident in Ophthalmology will be responsible for providing comprehensive eye care, including diagnosing and treating various ophthalmic conditions, performing surgeries, and managing outpatient and inpatient cases. The role involves working closely with attending ophthalmologists, supervising junior residents, and participating in the education of medical students. The Senior Resident is expected to develop proficiency in a wide range of ophthalmic procedures and contribute to the department\'s clinical and academic mission. Key Responsibilities:Patient Care:

  • Conduct thorough ophthalmic evaluations, including history taking, visual acuity assessment, slit-lamp examination, and fundoscopy.
  • Diagnose and manage common and complex eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, retinal disorders, and corneal diseases.
  • Perform surgical procedures under supervision, including cataract surgery, laser treatments, and minor ophthalmic surgeries.
  • Provide post-operative care, monitor patient recovery, and address any complications that arise.
Outpatient and Inpatient Management:
  • Manage outpatient clinics, providing routine eye care and follow-up for surgical patients.
  • Handle inpatient consultations and admissions, including pre-operative assessments and post-operative management.
  • Participate in emergency eye care services, including the management of ocular trauma and acute eye conditions.
Teaching and Mentorship:
  • Supervise and mentor junior residents, interns, and medical students during their rotations in the Ophthalmology department.
  • Conduct clinical teaching rounds, case presentations, and skills workshops focused on ophthalmic procedures.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to trainees to enhance their clinical and surgical skills.
Research and Academic Activities:
  • Engage in clinical research projects related to ophthalmology, contributing to advancements in eye care and treatment methodologies.
  • Present research findings at departmental meetings, conferences, and in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Participate in academic activities, including seminars, journal clubs, and continuing medical education (CME) sessions.
Professional Development:
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in ophthalmology through ongoing professional development and training.
  • Attend relevant ophthalmology conferences, workshops, and certification courses.
Qualifications:Education:
  • M.B.B.S. and M.S. (Ophthalmology) or an equivalent postgraduate qualification from a recognized institution.
Experience:
  • Completion of a residency program in Ophthalmology, with hands-on experience in diagnosing and managing a variety of eye conditions.
  • Prior experience in teaching and supervising junior medical staff is desirable.
Skills:
  • Proficiency in ophthalmic procedures, including surgical and laser techniques.
  • Excellent diagnostic and clinical management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on patient-centered care.
  • Ability to work efficiently in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in conducting and publishing clinical research in ophthalmology.
  • Involvement in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives within the department.
