Job Summary:The Senior Resident in General Surgery will play a critical role in providing surgical care to patients, performing and assisting in surgeries, and managing pre- and post-operative care. The role involves working closely with attending surgeons, supervising junior residents, and actively participating in the surgical education of medical students. The Senior Resident is expected to be proficient in a wide range of surgical procedures and to contribute to the overall academic and clinical mission of the department. Key Responsibilities:Surgical Care:

  • Perform surgical procedures under the supervision of attending surgeons, with increasing levels of autonomy as experience and proficiency grow.
  • Assist in complex surgeries, providing support and executing tasks as directed by the lead surgeon.
  • Conduct pre-operative assessments, including patient history, physical examinations, and preparation for surgery.
  • Manage post-operative care, including monitoring patient recovery, managing complications, and adjusting treatment plans as needed.
Patient Management:
  • Oversee the care of patients admitted to the surgical ward, including daily rounds, progress notes, and discharge planning.
  • Provide emergency surgical care, including trauma surgery, as part of the hospital\'s on-call rotation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care, including coordination with anesthesiology, nursing, and other specialties.
Teaching and Mentorship:
  • Supervise and mentor junior residents, interns, and medical students during their rotations in General Surgery.
  • Lead clinical teaching rounds, case presentations, and surgical skills workshops.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to junior trainees to enhance their surgical skills and knowledge.
Research and Academic Activities:
  • Participate in clinical research projects, contributing to the advancement of surgical techniques and patient care.
  • Present research findings at departmental meetings, conferences, and in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Engage in academic activities such as seminars, journal clubs, and continuing medical education (CME) sessions.
Professional Development:
  • Stay current with advancements in surgical techniques and medical knowledge through ongoing professional development and training.
  • Attend relevant surgical conferences, workshops, and certification courses.
Qualifications:Education:
  • M.B.B.S. and M.S. (General Surgery) or an equivalent postgraduate qualification from a recognized institution.
Experience:
  • Completion of a residency program in General Surgery, with experience in performing a variety of surgical procedures.
  • Prior experience in teaching and supervising junior medical staff is desirable.
Skills:
  • Strong surgical skills with the ability to manage a wide range of surgical cases, including emergency surgeries.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with a focus on patient care and safety.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
