The candidate is expected to lead projects in the broad space of CodeLLM where expectation is to deliver both scientific and business outcomes. The scientific outcomes encompass publication of the papers in top tier AI conferences/journals, filing patents, conference organization/chair duties, etc. The business outcome would involve inventing novel techniques for training/aligning CodeLLM to support multiple business use cases and delivering it to the satisfaction of business. The responsibility may involve owning entire lifecycle of LLMs starting all the way from data preprocessing, through model training, to evaluation and deployment. This may require the candidate to collaborate with IBMers across different departments within the lab and even across business divisions and geos. The candidate is also expected to mentor and coach younger team members in technical capacity to help them achieve their scientific eminence goals and help boosting the scientific eminence agenda for the lab.Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• Proposes new research challenge and ideas in broad CodeLLM AI space from having gained business insights, be able to execute the challenge with help of other group members.
• Leads research projects in the broad CodeLLM AI with external and/or internal client impact.
• Collaborates with clients and stakeholders in scoping joint research studies or development projects.
• Demonstrates internal and external eminence in multi-faceted ways, such as: receiving awards in conferences (e.g., Best Paper Award); serving as a conference chair, editor on scientific journals, or as a senior member of their professional society; delivering invited talks in conferences, universities, trade shows; serving in leadership roles in open-source communities.
• Exhibits teamwork and collaboration at the highest levels. Plans and conducts complex negotiations reaching lasting agreements and commitments.
• Acts as a technical leader in projects and Research Challenges. Coaches and mentors team/Challenge members to improve the quality of their work, maximize their impact, and increase their eminence and visibility.
• Actively represents IBM in professional societies, communities, and universities. Consequently, brings outside-in perspective back into the IBM Research ecosystem.

• Influences functional strategy and is a recognized technical expert offering strategic and tactical insight, direction, planning, analysis, and advice.
• May possibly act as a Sub-Theme Co-Lead. May manage a first-line team or group.
