Program Overview for Energy The objective of the WRI India energy program is to inform and guide India\'s transition to cleaner energy. The program focuses on three inter-related aspects of this energy transition: enhancing energy access, scaling renewables among specific consumer categories, and achieving higher levels of energy and buildings efficiency. Our energy access work is specifically aimed at ensuring access to affordable and clean energy so as to improve socio-economic development in rural and remote regions of India. Through strong research, ground-level implementation experience, partnerships with key stakeholders and communicating our work, we seek to achieve impact at scale. About your role: WRI has deep experience in the energy sector and on climate change across several topic areas and is widely recognized as a leader on energy and climate issues. In India, we have a multi-pronged energy strategy that looks strategically at directing our tools, research, expertise, and partnerships to support India\'s clean energy transition across varied economic activities like extraction, production, distribution, consumption and waste management in ensuring universal access to reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity and minimizing energy losses and thereby contributing to energy planning and policy analysis. The energy program at WRI India is seeking a Senior Research Associate - Modelling (Energy Program) to work with and support research focused on state energy transition. How your day will unfold: Following responsibilities: . Develop, build, maintain, update energy sector models and databases to track the energy scenario databases including utility electricity supply, demand, sources, costs, tariffs, revenues etc. This will be starting at state level and would expand to working across different regions in India. . Mentor and grow a team of specialists focused on energy modelling, scenario construction and engagement with stakeholders . Actively engage in modelling efforts with appropriate analysis of the energy sector using various modelling platforms, specifically open-source tools . Engage with key state energy agencies, private sector, civil society, academia and participate in energy modelling fora by representing WRII\'s research, analysis and point of view at these fora . Contribute to creation/co-creation of various scenarios in the model and model documentation of existing and future models . Guide and Oversee related research, data collation, data analysis and data interpretation . In-depth understanding of major policy reform processes, states\' energy and development sector policies, and identify opportunities to provide inputs to the modelling exercises . . Track tariff petitions and regulatory commission orders and other government portals - especially those related to clean energy to gather appropriate data and interpret for supporting in the clean energy transition work . Participate in research projects to produce policy / issue briefs, and other publications and reports (online and print) . Lead specific modules in the project as identified by the Energy Lead . Lead efforts to communicate the results of research undertaken . . Support the program\'s leadership in developing strategy and translate the strategy into workplans and activities. Support program leadership in staff & resources planning support in conceptualising and developing proposals to donors. Qualification and Requirements we seek: . Appropriate Master\'s degree in energy, economics, statistics, data science, engineering or development related discipline with exposure to the subject area of Energy/Environmental Economics. . At least 7 years of relevant experience in energy sector - working with and/or leading teams . Demonstrable experience in energy/power sector modeling, and computational skills . Strong research, computational and analytical skills, supported by professional experience in the domain of energy modelling along with contribution to publications and research reports . Prior experience working with energy/climate models and power sector planning tools is mandatory . Proficiency in software programs and modelling tools like LEAP, PLEXOS, PyPSA, Python, dispatch modelling tools, R, Stata, Homer, load flow analysis and other open source softwares is favourable . Willingness to learn new tools and modelling techniques to contribute to the on-going/new research projects is essential . Knowledge of the Indian energy sector, power sector policy landscape, sectoral developments, industry trends, and governmental functioning is necessary . Knowledge about econometric modelling and statistical techniques to analyse large quantitative datasets is a plus . Be pro-active in researching and pitching ideas, managing partnerships with policy makers, government agencies and media contacts . Good communications skill supported by a portfolio of articulations, e.g., writings and speaking engagements related to energy models . Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively in conversation and writing, including professional quality writing for policy and communications products in English . Strong ability to brainstorm and think creatively about all elements of their work . Willingness to travel locally and ability to work cooperatively with others to demonstrate flexibility in fulfilling assignments is essential Salary & Benefits: INR 21,00,000 to INR 25,00,000 CTC Per Annum Salary shall be commensurate with experience and skills.
