The Production Planning and Control Officer is responsible for overseeing all plant activities and functions, including manpower and shift management, routine maintenance, production planning, logistics coordination, machinery operation, and quality control. This role serves as the crucial link between management and production operations, ensuring efficient and smooth workflow in the pipe extrusion process. A thorough understanding of plastic extrusion or engineering is essential for this position.Key Responsibilities:
- Production Planning:
- Develop, implement, and modify monthly production plans to meet customer demands and optimize resource utilization.
- Create daily production plans and send them for further approvals.
- Monitor production processes and adjust schedules as needed to ensure timely delivery of products.
- Provide inputs for delivery dates in production orders.
- Study production orders, designs, and process sheets to gain a complete understanding of the job to be planned.
- Shift Management:
- Plan and manage shifts to ensure adequate manpower and efficient production operations.
- Requisition extra shifts or overtime to meet production targets.
- Address and resolve any shift-related issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
- Routine Maintenance:
- Oversee the maintenance of all machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team to schedule regular inspections and preventive maintenance activities.
- Logistics Coordination:
- Work closely with the logistics department to ensure the timely supply of raw materials and delivery of finished products.
- Follow up with purchases on the non-availability of material for production.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to maintain an efficient supply chain.
- Machinery Operation:
- Ensure all machinery and equipment are operated according to safety standards and production requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any operational issues to minimize disruptions.
- Quality Control:
- Implement and monitor quality control procedures to maintain high standards of product quality.
- Conduct regular quality inspections and audits, addressing any non-conformities promptly.
- Discuss NC reports with the QC department where required.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Act as the liaison between management and production teams, ensuring clear communication of objectives and expectations.
- Prepare and present regular reports on production performance, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
- Hold discussions with the design team if any design problems are faced on the shop floor.
- Monitoring and Reporting:
- Review daily reports on material consumption and actual vs. planned production.
- Keep track of daily production and analyze its effect on the next month's production plan.
- Manage actual vs. planned production targets and analyze reasons for not achieving them from subordinates.
- Resolve issues that are hampering the achievement of production targets.
- Inventory Management:
- Check the calculations for the issue of material from the stores.
- Raise requisitions for job work and follow up with job workers, ensuring the quality of the product is maintained.
- Shop Floor Management:
- Conduct shop floor visits to ensure that production processes are running smoothly.
- Create shop floor space plans and make any necessary changes to the same.
- Record keeping, safekeeping, and maintenance of molds.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in production planning and control, preferably in the plastic extrusion industry.
- In-depth knowledge of pipe extrusion processes and machinery.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficient in production planning software and tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with ERP systems.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
- Certification in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or Six Sigma or similar.
