Job Summary:The Senior Production Chemist is responsible for overseeing and optimizing chemical production processes to ensure efficiency, quality, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations. This role involves leading production teams, troubleshooting complex issues, and implementing process improvements to enhance productivity and product quality.Key Responsibilities:
Production Oversight:
Manage and supervise daily chemical production activities to meet production schedules and quality standards.
Ensure that production processes are carried out efficiently and safely, following established protocols and guidelines.
Monitor production metrics and KPIs, identifying areas for improvement.
Process Optimization:
Analyze production processes and identify opportunities for optimization and cost reduction.
Implement process improvements and new technologies to enhance efficiency and product quality.
Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting for complex production issues.
Quality Control:
Ensure that all products meet specified quality standards and customer requirements.
Develop and implement quality control procedures and protocols.
Conduct regular quality audits and inspections, addressing any non-conformities.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations in the production area.
Develop and maintain safety protocols and conduct regular safety training for production staff.
Investigate and report any safety incidents, implementing corrective actions as needed.
Team Leadership:
Lead and mentor production chemists and technicians, providing guidance and support to enhance their performance and development.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.
Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date production records, including batch records, production logs, and quality control reports.
Prepare and present production reports to management, highlighting key performance indicators and improvement initiatives.
Ensure proper documentation of all process changes and improvements.
Collaboration:
Work closely with R&D, quality assurance, and engineering teams to develop and scale up new products and processes.
Coordinate with supply chain and logistics teams to ensure timely availability of raw materials and finished products.
Participate in cross-functional team meetings to address production challenges and opportunities.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelors or Masters degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
7+ years of experience in chemical production, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or senior role.
Proven track record of optimizing production processes and leading teams.
Skills:
In-depth knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes and equipment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in using production management and quality control software.
Technical Competencies:
Familiarity with regulatory requirements and safety standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
Experience with process simulation and optimization tools.
Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing and walking for extended periods.
Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Work Environment:
Chemical manufacturing plant with exposure to various chemicals and industrial equipment.
Regular interaction with production staff, quality assurance, R&D, and management.
