The Role Responsibilities

Job Role

The job holder will be a part of the Scenario Design Team which is involved in designing, maintaining and enriching regulatory and management stress scenarios for the Bank at group and country level.

They will be expected to become the subject matter expert on all areas relating to climate risk macroeconomics and help with the design and development of the modelling capacity to produce climate risk scenario expansions. This may involve reviewing and challenging solutions provided by external vendors.

The role will, in particular, support the Head of the Scenario Design Team with key activities as set out below

Strategy

  • Design regulatory and non-regulatory climate risk scenarios.
  • Perform scenario expansion of key climate risk economic variables across the Group\xe2\x80\x99s diverse footprint.
  • Present baseline and alternative scenarios to senior managers in forums, expert panels and committees.
  • Contribute to committee papers, structured data requests and other internal or external scenario-related reports.
  • Foster good working relationships and solicit input from Global Businesses and Global Functions and, where relevant, external vendors to enhance scenarios.
  • Contribute to the development of a robust operational risk framework for scenario design processes.
  • Stay informed of all regulatory and industry developments related to the scenario work stream.
Business
  • Broad awareness and understanding of business model and risk profile.
  • Understanding of the bank\xe2\x80\x99s existing enterprise risk management framework, governance of the ERMF related requirements, wider stress testing and scenario analysis capabilities and existing processes, with an understanding of the climate risk stress testing and scenario analysis approach.
Processes
  • Design and build controls for the Scenario analysis related workstream for Climate Risk.
  • Evaluate relevant existing controls and contribute to designing new controls as required.
  • Support development of a climate database, including sourcing of internal and external data and performing data quality checks as required.

Risk Management
  • Understanding of various scenario families including NGFS, IPCC, and IEA scenarios.
  • Understand and translating transmission channels of climate risks into financial system impacts.
  • Familiarity with industry leading climate risk models and climate / ESG data providers, with fluency in the scope, capabilities and limitations of each tool and platform.
  • Understanding of regulatory expectations with respect to climate risks including capital frameworks, etc.
  • Experience in dealing with large complex, change projects and / or building / delivering new capabilities.
  • A proven track record of liaising across diverse stakeholder groups; including senior managers, and large firm networks.
  • Experience with scenario expansion and / or econometric modelling for scenario analysis and stress testing purposes.

  • Ensure that outcomes delivered, including necessary controls are fit for purpose and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s risk governance disciplines are adhered with.

Other Responsibilities
  • Embed Here for good and Group\xe2\x80\x99s brand and values in climate risk team.
  • Lead the scenario analysis workstream for the group and countries.
  • Point of contact for the country related climate stress tests and scenario analysis.
  • Lead the reporting and TCFD requirements for countries.
  • Promote Risk Governance.
Our Ideal Candidate

Academic and Professional Background
  • Degree qualified in a numerate discipline (eg. Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Science).
  • Some familiarity with wholesale and / or retail banking.
Knowledge / Experience
  • 8 - 12 years of strong experience in Climate Risk and / or Credit Risk Management as well as global climate policies and industry trends within the space.
  • Work experience as economist (macroeconomic or environmental economist), econometrician or quantitative analyst.
  • Prior experience of developing projections in a banking environment.
  • Good communicator, in particular written communications in English.
  • Ability to explain complex matters in simple and intuitive terms.
  • Ability to track and report progress updates of multiple areas against milestones and highlight key issues.
  • Collaborative: working as part of a broader team to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach.
  • Good organiser of incoming requests within the team.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction.
  • Demonstrate understanding of and commitment to the Group\'s core values.
  • Ownership mindset, able to think creatively and be open to new ideas.
  • Able to work with tight deadlines and multiple demands.
  • Proactive, problem-solving, helpful.
  • Strong experience in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with coding in SAS, R, Python.
  • Econometric/statistical model building experience preferred.
  • Experience with IFRS9, IRB, Stress testing models.
  • Attention to detail.
