About our Team

Our Mercury Sales Channel Integration team works to integrate a wide variety of platforms, technology and business domains to allow rapid and reliable communication of business events throughout Elsevier's broad portfolio of sales channels. The team continues to grow rapidly and incorporate new functions into its scope. As it grows, it's essential the team maintains engineering excellence to deliver scalable, reusable solutions.

About the Role

As a Senior Java Software Engineer, you\'ll be responsible for designing and building new features and services. You\'ll need to combine both excellent technical expertise with architecture and work closely with the technical lead to explore new ideas and solutions. Additionally, you\'ll elevate the engineering culture in a team of engineers of all levels of experience to build a company-leading microservice platform.

Responsibilities as a Senior Java Software Engineer:

  • Partnering closely with the technical lead to understand complex requirements and implement designs that deliver on the desired capabilities.
  • Apply existing knowledge of the system's core technology to deliver on the product roadmap
  • Collaborate effectively within agile development squads, delivering continuous improvements
  • Mentoring and guiding junior team members to develop their skills in software development and best practice
  • Leveraging the latest technologies, including automation tools, continuous experiments, testing, and learning approaches.


Requirements as a Senior Java Software Engineer:
  • Have solid development experience with Java Spring Boot, REST APIs, and Microservices
  • Have an understanding knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g. Agile).
  • Be familiar with using DevOps tools such as Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and Cloud-Based Infrastructure.
  • Be familiar of architectural principles
  • Be a great communicator and enjoy mentoring and sharing knowledge with junior engineers
