LPSD also designs and manufactures drivetrains and the four key engine systems -- fuel systems, air systems, aftertreatment systems and cooling systems that determine the cost and performance trajectory of most Caterpillar engines and machines.Job SummaryAs a Senior Engineering Project Team Lead on the LPSD Engines team on Perkins brand products, you will serve as a Platform Lead for an assigned Engine platform directing all associated engineering activities. You will manage the planning and delivery of projects, continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology, mentor and coach enterprise team members, and deepen your professional network.You will interact with people from diverse technical and cultural backgrounds and will work within the team and beyond the team with contractors, suppliers, customers, and individuals working in many Caterpillar organizations. We have a fabulous team that does some of the most exciting work at Caterpillar, and we can\'t wait for you to join the team!Additional Info :This position may require up to 10% travel.What You Will Do:Manage all engineering deliverables across multiple engine systems associated with an assigned LPSD Perkins engine platform.Provide technical leadership for engine (L4) New Product Introduction (NPI) programs working closely with NPI project manager.Support the product health organization using technical expertise and product knowledge in addressing Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) and customer issues.Collaborate with global manufacturing team to evaluate, define, and resolve design and manufacturing problems on your assigned engine platform.Direct all engineering product maintenance activities associated with the engine platform.Lead global teams in the design, development and release of new products, systems & components, coordinating multiple component (L3) engineers and product domain owners (L4) in the delivery of successful products to the market.Develop, maintain, and communicate a costed bill of material structure for the engine platform with your L4 Design team.Interact with peers and supporting teams to maintain cross platform product-line commonality.Provide guidance to other engineers responsible for portions of the product project to ensure development schedules are met.Maintain engine-level (L4) product requirements and technical specification documents.Proactively identify roadblocks and work with teams to rapidly resolve and improve the overall team and program efficiency.Provide regular reports and updates, both verbal and written, to key stakeholders, management and team members on your engine platform activities.Support marketing and commercial teams with technical information related to the engine platform.Review platform specific literature to ensure accuracy prior to publishing.Conduct technical evaluations and reviews of major systems and of the product as a whole to ensure we are delivering high quality, robust and competitive products at a low total cost of ownership level.Complete projects on time and on cost.Acknowledge and raise management\'s awareness of trade-offs between time, resources, and quality.Communicate results to global customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units.Travels to foreign and domestic plants, dealerships, and customer job sites to solve design problems or to field-test locations to evaluate product improvements.The Senior Engineering Project Team Lead role will not have supervisor responsibility for direct reporting employees.
