About the Role
As a Senior DevOps Engineer on Workday's Performance and Capacity Tools team, you will help define and deliver the future of our operational efficiency and system reliability. In this role, you'll work closely with software engineers, product managers, and other cross-functional partners to create and deploy innovative solutions that bring clarity to complex usage patterns. Your work will empower teams across Workday to make data-driven decisions at scale, ensuring our platforms are resilient, secure, and highly performant.
What You'll DoDesign & Implement: Build and maintain scalable infrastructure solutions using Kubernetes (EKS) and AWS services, focusing on security and best practices. Drive CI/CD Excellence: Create and refine continuous integration and delivery pipelines that enable quick, reliable deployments. Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with software engineering teams, SRE, and product teams to gather requirements, align on roadmaps, and deliver optimal infrastructure solutions. Automate Everything: Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code templates, automating deployments, scaling, and configuration management. Monitor & Optimize: Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability frameworks to proactively detect issues and continually improve performance. Mentor & Lead: Provide technical guidance, help set best practices, and support the growth of junior engineers on the team.

Basic QualificationsBS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent years of experience. 3+ years of experience working with AWS cloud services, including best practices in resiliency and security. 3+ years of experience deploying distributed systems in AWS using Kubernetes (EKS). Proficiency with a scripting/programming language such as Go or Python. Strong understanding of cloud security, networks, protocols, servers, storage systems, and operating systems. Experience operating and troubleshooting containerized workloads, including observability tooling like Prometheus, Grafana, and metrics pipelines. Familiarity with data systems like Trino, Hive, PostgreSQL, and S3 as part of modern data platform architectures.

Preferred QualificationsExperience with standard software development methodologies (code management, CI/CD, testing). Hands-on experience designing and working with CI/CD solutions such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or TeamCity. Familiarity with infrastructure as code using frameworks like Terraform, Argo CD, or Ansible. Experience with Helm charts to deploy and manage applications on EKS. Experience supporting or integrating data orchestration tools like Airflow and dbt. Exposure to production monitoring and alerting best practices; strong bias toward automated remediation and root cause analysis. Comfortable designing secure, scalable architectures with clear patterns for access management (IAM), secrets management, and encryption (KMS). Experience supporting developer tooling such as ephemeral dev environments, container build pipelines, or workspace automation (e.g., Coder). Proactive about improving automation, documentation, and processes. Thrives in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly. Experience collaborating with cross-functional, global, and remote teams of diverse backgrounds.
