The Enterprise Data Lake team at PayPal is dedicated to delivering high-quality, cost-efficient enterprise product data. Our mission is to "Provide Enterprise Product Data at Lower Cost and Better Quality." To support this mission, we are expanding our team in India and are seeking an Engineering Manager to join our local Enterprise Data Lake team.Meet our team:
Our team plays a critical role in building and managing our big data cloud platform. We focus on solution design, development, delivery, and ongoing support and management of the platform, as well as the tools and cloud infrastructure that enable and optimize a wide range of business data use cases on our Enterprise Data Lake. As part of this team, you will work on cutting-edge technology to drive data innovation and efficiency across the organization.   • Lead and inspire a team of highly motivated and skilled Cloud platform developers, focusing on creating and managing PayPal Inc.'s enterprise data lake at scale.
  • Develop and articulate a strategic roadmap and vision for PayPals Enterprise Data Lake Platform, aligning with our One PayPal initiative.
Your Day to Day:
  • Oversee budget management and resource allocation to ensure the delivery of efficient, reliable, and scalable platforms.
  • Collaborate with various business units within PayPal, fostering strong, effective partnerships and maintaining robust customer relationships.
  • Manage high-visibility projects, coordinating with peers in Engineering, Product, and Program Management to ensure successful deliverables.
What You Need to Bring:
  • Masters degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field with at least 10 years of experience; or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of directly related work experience.
  • Over 10 years of experience in building distributed systems and software infrastructure platforms using languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, or Scala.
  • At least 3 years of experience with relational database systems like Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in building data platforms.
  • Proficiency with at least one major cloud platform (Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, or Azure) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Over 4 years of experience in building and managing highly functional software teams.
  • A strong passion for software quality, with a focus on secure development lifecycle best practices.
  • Ability to adapt to new development environments, evolving business requirements, and new systems is highly desired.
  • Strong team player, capable of working effectively across multiple teams on solutions with complex dependencies in a fast-paced environment.
Nice-to-Haves:
  • Prior experience in building or operating large-scale distributed systems and services.
  • Contributions to open-source projects, particularly in the platform space.
  • Experience in handling petabyte-scale data.
