Team & Role Overview

We are looking for an exceptional Technical Lead to be part of a close-knit team delivering foundational data services to AstraZeneca\xe2\x80\x99s data science and data engineering communities.

The R&D Data Foundation platform exists to give our scientists and data scientists access to data and tools at pace, accelerating their work on life saving medicines. We are making our data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Re-usable (FAIR) and the work of the R&D Data Foundation is making a significant contribution to that effort. In the last two years we have accelerated compliant access to data and tooling by as much as two orders of magnitude. The platform consists of teams focused on delivering a number of key products: R&D Data Lake; Snowflake, R&D Data Catalogue; Reference Data Management; Master Data Management; Track, Trace & Audit.

You will lead efforts to integrate and enhance new and existing cloud services that have been developed. Your work will have two strands: firstly you\xe2\x80\x99ll be getting hands-on building and enhancing what we already have to support self service ; eliminating manual tasks; secondly you\xe2\x80\x99ll providing technical guidance for upcoming software modifications , executing PoCs, documenting options and outcomes, collaborating with other technical contacts on the team and providing design and working with solution architects to enhance our architecture blue print.

You would be working closely with data and cloud engineers and solution architects to produce great technical designs and make them into a reality. You will likely possess a blend of excellent engineering skills and successful experience building quality cloud applications. We would like you to be a proactive problem solver who can design and build easy to maintain applications that enable other teams to do their jobs at pace .

Skills and Experience

Essential

In depth experience with design, build and run of AWS services.

Have in depth experience with integration of data solutions using APIs and AWS to drive a solution with end to end design using approved technology selection and partnering with other team members to define and design the solution.

Ability to document that solution and explain it to director and lead level team members.

Have proven experience mentoring others and providing technical guidance through design and implementation.

Have a \xe2\x80\x9ccan do\xe2\x80\x9d approach to technical issues. Dig for the right technical answer that fits the need. Finding solutions to technical problems that may arise with understanding the technical issue and using all resources to solve that issue.

Experience and skills around automation and associated tools (we use: Jenkins, Lambda, Terraform, Ansible).

Ability to learn and develop new tech skills as required supporting the extension of the I&DE (Information and Data Enablement) group

Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently to deliver objectives.

Understand REST API technology and how it integrates into self service pipeline tasks.

Proven experience with data using SQL and relational and/or graph databases.

Have experience with scripting languages (e.g. Python, NodeJS).

Desirable Skills and Experience

Experience of AWS CDK.

Experience of building data focused cloud services including Data Lakes, data streaming, and access automation.
