Job Requirements
A scientific editor must:
• be knowledgeable about recent scientific, and medical advancements.
• know the methods of scientific editing of manuscripts.
• be perfectly fluent in the English language, and know its grammar, punctuation, and stylistics.
• know the standards regarding scientific and technological terms, measurements, and time units; he/she must also know the standards for abbreviations and contractions.
• Be well-versed in various search engines and referencing patterns in medical manuscripts.
Professional Duties
A scientific editor performs the following duties:
Compile and edit high-quality, clear, medically accurate manuscripts, conference abstracts, posters PowerPoint slide decks, advisory board summarises and other scientific literature for a prominent pharmaceutical client.
Ensuring the accuracy of all information, and data referencing for the publications/documents produced
Ensuring projects remain within specification and liaising with clients to negotiate changes where necessary.
Being proactive in tracking projects and chasing comments from clients and authors as well as determining timelines
Multitasking on a variety of projects at the same time
Learning and understanding new therapy areas quickly and comprehensively, inspiring confidence in the client
Working closely with clients and team associates for timely delivery.
Contributing ideas for business proposals and new projects
Helping and advising junior members of staff
Qualifications
Bachelor's / Master's degree in Pharmacy / related science area OR Bachelor's degree in Medical Science
Experience
At least 3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with at least 2 years of it in medical writing
