Job Description

Job Summary:

The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment by developing, implementing, and overseeing safety policies and procedures. This role involves conducting safety inspections, managing safety training programs, investigating incidents, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of safety management practices, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating workplace hazards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safety Policy Development:
• Develop and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Regularly review and update safety policies to reflect current best practices and regulatory changes.
• Safety Inspections and Audits:
• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of the workplace to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Document inspection findings and work with relevant departments to address any safety concerns or non-compliances.
• Incident Management:
• Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Prepare detailed incident reports and maintain records of incidents and investigations.
• Safety Training:
• Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees on topics such as proper use of PPE, emergency response procedures, and safe work practices.
• Ensure that all employees are adequately trained and understand safety policies and procedures.
• Emergency Response:
• Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and first aid protocols.
• Conduct regular drills to ensure employees are prepared for emergency situations.
• Regulatory Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards and guidelines.
• Prepare and submit required safety reports and documentation to regulatory agencies.
• Safety Equipment and Procedures:
• Oversee the maintenance and proper use of safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ensure that safety procedures are followed and that equipment is regularly inspected and maintained.
• Safety Culture Promotion:
• Promote a culture of safety within the organization by encouraging safe work practices and proactive safety behaviors.
• Engage employees in safety initiatives and provide support for safety-related concerns or suggestions.
• Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and compliance activities.
• Prepare and present safety performance reports to management and recommend improvements.

Qualifications:

• Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent; associate's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.
