Safety Officer
Job Summary:
The Safety Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing company safety programs and ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines. The role involves identifying and mitigating safety risks, conducting regular safety inspections, training employees on safety protocols, and investigating incidents to prevent future occurrences.
Key Responsibilities:
• Safety Program Development:
• Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Update and review safety programs to ensure they reflect current regulations and company standards.
• Training and Education:
• Conduct safety training and educational programs for employees on various safety practices, hazard identification, and use of protective equipment.
• Organize workshops and seminars to enhance employee knowledge about workplace safety.
• Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
• Perform regular safety audits and inspections of facilities, machinery, and equipment.
• Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
• Analyze accident reports and implement strategies to prevent future incidents.
• Incident Investigation:
• Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, or near-misses to determine the cause and prevent recurrence.
• Prepare detailed reports of findings and recommendations for corrective action.
• Compliance and Record Keeping:
• Ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.
• Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities, incidents, training, and inspections.
• Prepare and submit required safety reports to regulatory agencies.
• Emergency Preparedness:
• Develop and coordinate emergency response plans and drills.
• Ensure all employees are familiar with emergency procedures and evacuation routes.
• Collaboration and Communication:
• Work closely with management and employees to promote a culture of safety.
• Serve as the point of contact for safety-related issues and concerns.
• Provide guidance and support to management on safety-related matters.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
• Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), or similar are preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a safety officer or similar role.
• Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of OHS regulations and standards, risk assessment methodologies, and safety management systems.
• Skills:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to conduct training sessions and present safety information effectively.
• Proficiency in using safety management software and tools.
Working Conditions:
• The role may require working in various environments, including offices, factories, construction sites, and outdoor locations.
• Must be willing to travel to different work sites and conduct inspections.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to walk, stand, and inspect various locations and environments for extended periods.
• Capability to lift and carry equipment and materials as needed.
Reporting:
• The Safety Officer reports to the Safety Manager or Director of Safety.
