Job Summary:
The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that the workplace is safe for all employees, contractors, and visitors. This includes the development, implementation, and monitoring of health and safety programs, conducting risk assessments, ensuring compliance with legal and company policies, and fostering a safety culture across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
• Safety Management:
• Develop, implement, and review safety policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of the workplace.
• Identify hazards and risks in the workplace and propose effective solutions.
• Maintain records of safety inspections and accident investigations.
• Compliance & Training:
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations.
• Provide safety training for new employees and refresher courses for existing staff.
• Keep up-to-date with relevant safety legislation and standards.
• Conduct safety drills (e.g., fire drills, evacuation drills).
• Accident & Incident Management:
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and compile detailed reports.
• Monitor workplace injuries and illnesses, and assist with their resolution.
• Work with the management team to implement corrective actions.
• Reporting & Documentation:
• Maintain accurate records of safety training, incidents, and inspections.
• Prepare reports for senior management on safety performance and issues.
• Develop and maintain a system for tracking safety concerns and resolutions.
• Safety Culture Promotion:
• Foster a culture of safety within the organization.
• Promote employee participation in safety programs and encourage safe work practices.
• Conduct safety awareness campaigns and initiatives to engage employees.
Qualifications:
• Education:
• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field. (or equivalent work experience)
• Certifications:
• Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH) is preferred.
• First Aid and CPR certification may be required.
• Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Safety Officer or in a similar role.
• Experience in managing safety programs, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
• Skills:
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to conduct training and presentations.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Detail-oriented and organized.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to conduct site inspections and audits.
• Ability to lift and move safety equipment and materials.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time during inspections.
Working Conditions:
• Office-based work and occasional site visits.
• Exposure to industrial or construction environments (if applicable).
