Job Title: Safety Officer (Electrical Department)
Job Purpose: Ensure and promote a safe working environment within the electrical department by implementing and monitoring effective safety procedures, especially focused on electrical safety and induction training safety.
Key Responsibilities:
• Electrical Safety:
• Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards related to electrical installations, equipment, and processes.
• Develop and implement safety protocols specific to electrical work, ensuring compliance with local regulations and industry standards.
• Advise on safe work practices for electrical installations, repairs, and maintenance activities.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, or accidents involving electrical equipment and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure proper maintenance of electrical safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Induction Training Safety:
• Develop and deliver induction training programs for new hires and contractors, emphasizing electrical safety protocols and procedures.
• Conduct safety orientations and training sessions related to electrical hazards, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of induction training programs, updating content as necessary to address emerging risks or regulatory changes.
• Compliance and Documentation:
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of electrical safety regulations, codes, and standards.
• Ensure departmental compliance with relevant safety laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Keep accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incidents, and corrective actions.
• Safety Culture Promotion:
• Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability among departmental staff and contractors.
• Collaborate with supervisors and managers to address safety concerns and implement improvements.
• Organize and participate in safety committee meetings, providing insights and recommendations.
• Emergency Preparedness:
• Develop and implement emergency response procedures for electrical incidents.
• Conduct drills and simulations to test emergency procedures and response capabilities.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Proven experience as a Safety Officer or similar role, preferably in an electrical or industrial environment.
• In-depth knowledge of electrical safety regulations, codes, and standards (e.g., NFPA 70E, OSHA standards).
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks and implement effective controls.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and influence others.
• Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CSP, OHST) is advantageous.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field is preferred.
Working Conditions:
• Regular office hours with occasional inspections and training sessions in the field.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments where electrical hazards may be present.
